Trincomalee, Sri Lanka
What is your idea / business and to whom is it addressed?
Due to the growing propaganda against consuming broiler chicken and slaughtering cow mutton becoming the only substitute for meat consumers. The price of mutton in Sri Lanka is very high comparatively due to the less supply as there are only a few goat farming available. In order to meet the demand of the market, this is the right time to develop goat farming. Goat farming is a project which requires only one-time investment and further development of the project into a mega one could be done out of its profit without any new investments. This project is addressed to a medium-range investor.
How should the idea/business earn money?
The current price of mutton per kilogram is 13$-15$ in Sri Lanka. Starting up with 500 goats will be doubled or tripled by the end of the year through births. Daily sales of elderly goats will keep the number of goats within a manageable limit not exceeding 750. By the end of the year, the investment made on the purchase of 500 goats would be recovered. If no expansion is made on the scale of the project the recovered amount by the sale of one year could be considered as the profit of the first year.
At what stage is the idea / business at the moment?
The land for the farm is ready. The structure of the goat shed had to be built. Product marketing sources are approached and confirmed. Up to 250 goats are in demand. Tough our project cannot supply them all. Investment is required for the purchase of 500 goats and to put up the goat shed. The land will only be the contribution from our side. Need 4 months time to complete the project and supplying of goats will commence only after the birth of the new batch of goats. The older will be sold.
